The American Thunker Is Always Searching For A Reason To Attack

Now they are attacking the Obamas for wanting to have a small farmers market outside the White House grounds. What is wrong with that? If the White House garden is yielding a surplus in excess of the White House needs why not offer it to the community? I think the farmers market outside the White House is basically a inexpensive method of making an example of healthy food choices.

But Clarice Feldman of the American Thunker must not be a green thumb. She writes:

"Like a child who wandered into an adult cocktail party and tried to seem precocious by mouthing clichés he doesn't really understand, Obama once again made a fool of himself as he did during the campaign when he told his rich backers in San Francisco about those bitter clingers to their religion and guns ."

"For the record, Washington D.C. has many outlets selling good fresh food , including numerous well-attended farmers' markets selling locally grown produce .The President might have known this if he hadn't spent most of his feckless tenure jetting about the world apologizing for the "sins" of his country."

I am unsure how the President made a fool of himself. What is the poor judgment he displayed by proposing a farmers market? Is it because there are farmers markets in DC already.

According to Google maps there are six markets in DC. There may be more than six but does one more hurt? It would be a better proposal if the White House would setup the market in a neighbor that does not have a market already and lacks options for fresh fruit and veg but that does not make the White House farmers market a bad idea.

The Birthers Will Be Back Soon Here Is Why

The World Net Daily is saying that the Barack Obama's MySpace page has his age as 52. They write:

"A new wrinkle in the dispute over his birth – and whether he is eligible to be president under the U.S. Constitution's requirement that the president be a "natural born" citizen – appeared today when Obama's official MySpace page declared his age is 52, thus placing his birth year at 1957 instead of 1961 as has been claimed.

That would mean he would have been born during the archipelago's time as a territory of the U.S., the islands' status from about 1900 until statehood in 1959."

Now the story will be he was not born in Kenya but in Hawaii but it was not a state. So he can't be president.

He writes:

Niall Ferguson has an excellent essay in the FT. The Ascent of Money author sums up the beginning of the administration. Ferguson compares the President to Felix the Cat. He think Barack Obama has worked hard but has been really lucky. After six months of the worlds toughest job Ferguson is surprise that presidents popularity is holding up well considering what he has to deal with.

On the economy he writes:

"Consider the evidence that the economy has passed the nadir of the “great recession”. Second-quarter gross domestic product declined by only 1 per cent, compared with a drop of 6.4 per cent in the first quarter. House prices have stopped falling and in some cities are rising; sales of new single-family homes jumped 11 per cent from May to June. Credit spreads have narrowed significantly and the big banks are recovering, some even making enough money to pay back Tarp bail-out funds. The S&P 500 index is up nearly 48 per cent from its low in early March. Best of all, the economy lost fewer jobs in July than most pundits were expecting. Non-farm payrolls declined by just 247,000, half the number that were disappearing each month in the spring. The unemployment rate has actually declined slightly to 9.4 per cent."

But Ferguson gives credit where it is due:

"Credit where it’s due: although the gold medal for staving off depression goes to Ben Bernanke, the Federal Reserve chairman, and the silver medal to China’s leaders for their even more impressive stimulus, the president deserves at least bronze. According to Moody’s, the ratings agency, the stimulus package has saved more than 500,000 jobs. Without the jump in government spending, GDP would still be in a nosedive."

Overall Ferguson's position is positive but he sees some road blocks that could cause a stumble for Barack Obama. Sphere: Related Content

White House Upset By Reference To Obama Daughters

The White House is upset by the use of the Obama daughter's on a poster advocating healthy lunches in public schools. Politics Daily reports:

"One day after the posters went up, White House Associate Counsel Karen Dunn and Deputy Associate Counsel Ian Bassin called PCRM President Neal Barnard to request he pull the campaign, according to The Post."

Did this organization, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, cross some line in referring to the President's daughters in the ad? My initial reaction is that they did not. I may not be seeing all the issues surrounding the use of the use of the duaghter but they are part of the image of the President. It does seem appropriate to highlight the disparity of choices between the privileged and those not privileged.

American Thunker: Barack Obama is just Like Adolf Hitler?

Bart Willruth at American Thunker asks, "Does this sound like the country you know (knew)?" Willruth asks this after he insanely equates nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, N. Korea, Cuba, Yugoslavia and China with the Obama Administration. What compelled Wallruth to make this syllogistic fallacy? I don't really know, but the faux issue he is so scared of is this post on the White House blog. The post asks people to send anti-health care reform emails they receive to a White House email address. The blog post says:

"There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."

OK the White House is using technology to combat what they believe is disinformation. How is that comparable to regimes that arrest opposition at best and kill them at worst.

Willruth asks, "Are we now like one of those totalitarian states?" This question is being asked now, after the past decade. The decade of wiretapping and "see something say something."

Willruth writes:

"Our forebears sacrificed so much to pass on the blessings of liberty. The least that we can do in the shadow of those heroes is to exercise our right to speak, and to do so out loud, not in whispers fearing that someone will forward our thoughts to the Watchers. These intimidating tactics must end."

He does not explain what is intimidating about the White House request. It is obvious that Wallruth is comfortable with lies that mislead debates on important issues. But it is clear that Wallruth is entirely comfortable making really poor ad hominem attacks. Sphere: Related Content

David Weigel has quickly debunked the nut that is Orly Taitz (still love that name). Taitz's new fraud was Barack Obama's Kenyan birth certificate. Weigel writes:

"This has always been a red flag for conspiracy theorists, so it deserves some explanation. Barack Obama Sr. was born and educated in Nyanza Province, in southwestern Kenya, on Lake Victoria. This is the area where Obama’s family lived and continues to live; Sarah Obama, the step-grandmother of the president, lives in Nyang’oma Kogelo, a small town in the province. But Mombasa is a city on the Indian Ocean, a thousand miles to the east. It didn’t even have an international airport until 1979. And the city wasn’t even part of Kenya when the future president was born. Mombasa was a part of Zanzibar until December 12, 1963, when it became part of the newly independent Kenya."

Washinton Post Reports Barack Obama's Impressions From The Campaign

The WaPo reports the Presidents impressions of the campaign. It reads fairly candid but you never know. Definitely worth a read.

My favorite passages:

"He was asked how the writer in him would spin the tale of what ultimately happened in 2008. 'The way I would tell the story would really have to do with what this campaign said about America and where we've traveled,' Obama said. 'The fact that just a little over 40 years after the passage of the Voting Rights Act, that I can run. That just a few decades after women were admitted to professions like law or medicine in any meaningful numbers, that Hillary could run in a credible way.
